Handicap International’s REBUILD Project has recently published a brochure on the RECU Principle, a key tenet in universal accessibility.
The principle states that “persons with disabilities should be able to Reach, Enter, Circulate, and Use” all facilities and services.
According to the document, ensuring accessibility doesn’t only mean putting ramps in buildings: “It’s about communicating effectively and facilitating movement, keeping in mind not to break the ‘chain of movement’.”
The REBUILD Project is a livelihoods and inclusive local development project based in Baras, Rizal.
