DAVAO CITY – Continuing their steps in promoting healthy living and the prevention, control and management of diabetes, thousands of people from different institutions and sectors converged to commemorate the 2015 World Diabetes Day in People’s Park last November 13.
Davaoeños from numerous institutions and sectors kicked off the celebration with a colorful rendition of the Global Diabetes Walk at the local park, which then culminated in a lively hour-long Zumba session to invigorate the participants through lively music.
Complementing the Zumba session were the medical services offered by the Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Program of the Davao City Health Office that included diabetes risk assessment, blood pressure taking, fasting blood sugar screening, health education promotion and consultation. The healthy activities were then capped off with a free breakfast meal for the participants.
Organized by Handicap International’s CVD Project, the Davao City Health Office, and the Department of Health Region XI, this year’s Global Diabetes Walk marked the second of a three-year (2014-2016) focus of the World Diabetes Day on healthy living and diabetes.
